Quick Overview of Insurance Policies

Auto Insurance Policies

This list should help you figure out what kinds of policies you need or help you save money.

If you’ve never been to Florida or you wish to expand or update your current policy, you might be wondering what types of policies are available and what they could mean for you. Whether you’re trying to find out what kinds of policies you need or want to save some money, this list is recommended.

In a variety of cases, you might be able to hire a car accident attorney in Fort Lauderdale to assist you in recovering damages if an accident was caused by someone else, but in other cases, you’ll likely be on your own if the driver is either underinsured or uninsured, unless you have a good policy that will protect you.

Personal Injury Coverage

Personal injury protection can cover you and your family for up to $10,000 and is a no-fault policy that includes coverage for medical bills and lost wages. This kind of protection is also mandatory in the state of Florida and may come in handy should you become involved in an accident with an underinsured or uninsured motorist. You’ll still be able to file a personal injury lawsuit if you collect on this policy.

Property Damage Coverage

This type of coverage will cover accidental damage to someone else’s property, including damage to someone else’s car or other property that might become damaged. The insurance isn’t used in accidents that someone else caused because their PD insurance covers your damages. Florida law also requires PD insurance.

Bodily Injury Coverage

While coverage for bodily injury isn’t required in Florida, if you ever need it, it can be very helpful. It covers anyone you might injure by accident and can protect you from becoming liable should there be a personal injury lawsuit. Should you injure another person, they’ll need to work with your insurance company to negotiate a claim amount, or they may decide to file a lawsuit.

Uninsured Motorists

Florida doesn’t require Uninsured Motorist coverage either, but this policy is helpful and important should you need it. It covers personal injuries due to car accidents with drivers who don’t have bodily injury coverage you can collect on. If the driver doesn’t have bodily injury coverage or you don’t have Uninsured Motorist coverage, you may have to pay for most of your medical expenses yourself.

Collision Policy

Collision policies cover replacement or repair costs should your car become totaled or damaged if you’re in an accident. Florida doesn’t require this insurance, but having it could keep you from paying for replacement or repairs out of your own pocket.

Comprehensive Policy

Comprehensive policies are for other instances, including damage to your car that isn’t caused by an accident, or for flood, theft, fire, or vengeful ex coverage.
