Crestor is a type of statin drug that has been used to medically control cholesterol. In 2010, after receiving the results of Crestor’s performance in the JUPITER trial, the FDA approved AstraZeneca’s request for the use of the drug for healthy individuals. It was decided that not only could Crestor be prescribed for cholesterol issues, but it could be marketed toward individuals with no known cardiovascular disease as a prevention method as well. It has been argued that despite the studies that showed the potential for injury, the drug Crestor was promoted and marketed as a safe drug.
